Janice Tucker (BSHE ’81)


School-based administrator with 30 years of experience in education

Janice E. Tucker earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Health Education (1981) from the University of Florida and a Master of Science in Education Leadership (1999) from Nova Southeastern University. As a health educator, Tucker presented research at the Third Hispanic Medical Congress and co-authored and published, “Health Promotion and Disease Prevention among Minorities; The Role of the Office of Minority Health Resource Center.”

Her work with the U.S. Army Summer Associateship Program for High School Science and Mathematics Educators at Patrick Air Force Base’s Defense Equal Opportunity Management Institute resulted in the publication of several pamphlets celebrating African-American heritage and the establishment of the Martin Luther King, Jr. holiday.

During her 30 years in public education, Tucker has taught courses in health education and science. Tucker currently serves as a school-based administrator in Orange Park, Florida. She was recognized as Teacher of the Year at her school in Brevard County (1995), Assistant Principal of the Year for Clay County and the State of Florida (2012). Tucker has received numerous awards and recognitions related to community involvement and education, and services and opportunities for youth. She and her husband, Horace, have two sons and two grandchildren.
