Biography

Emily Padgett Plunkett, Ph.D., is an Instructional Assistant Professor in the Department of Sport Management. A three-time UF graduate and former Gator athlete, Plunkett returned to UF after working as a clinical faculty member at Texas A&M University.

A PAADS-certified Athlete Development Specialist, she has developed career transition programming, courses and executive education for college athletes, sport management students and professional athletic support staff.

Plunkett’s research examines the effects of pre-transition programming on transition quality factors for athletes retiring from elite sport and college students entering the workforce. Her work aims to optimize career transitions and enhance career readiness through curriculum/competency development, experiential learning, career and identity exploration, and program evaluation.

In recognition of this, she has been awarded consulting grants for evaluation of Division I athletic departments, youth athlete development programs, and primary and secondary school curricula.

Her work has been published in peer-reviewed journals and disseminated to academic and industry audiences at national and international conferences.
