Ravi Kumar

My research with Dr. Ferreira focuses on exercise intolerance in skeletal muscle. Skeletal muscle is the largest organ in the body and plays a critical role in locomotion, respiration, and metabolism.

Our goal is to develop interventions to prevent and reduce respiratory and limb muscle abnormalities in heart failure populations. I enjoy that faculty mentors in the department are in a league of their own, and that they foster a supportive yet challenging environment.

Vivian Doerr

My research with Dr. Smuder focuses on the detrimental effects of the chemotherapeutic doxorubicin on cardiac and skeletal muscle health.

Our goal is to investigate the molecular mechanisms contributing to muscle dysfunction, as well as utilizing exercise as a preventative technique for chemotherapy-induced myotoxicity. I enjoy being a part of this elite research environment and am appreciative of the many opportunities for development.

Grant Tays

My work with Dr. Seidler focuses on the effects of spaceflight on the brain and how this impacts human movement. I am studying the effects of artificial gravity as a potential countermeasure for these changes.

One thing I enjoy about the program is the world-class expertise in the faculty. I get to be a party to new ideas, to work with novel methods and to collaborate with other labs.
